Project overview

NovaLabs had happy customers and unusable footage. Previous testimonials had been recorded with questions that invited compliments, which produced two minutes of warmth and nothing a prospect could weigh.

Creative approach

We rewrote the interview around before-and-after specifics: what the work looked like previously, what changed, and what they would tell somebody considering it. Nobody was asked whether they were satisfied.

Production process

1. Pre-production

Three customers selected for how different their situations were, and a question set sent in advance so they arrived with examples rather than adjectives.

2. Production

Two-camera interviews at each customer's own workplace, with cutaways of the work actually being done.

3. Post-production

A two-minute film built from the three interviews, plus nine single-customer cuts for sales to send directly.

Challenges

One interview produced the strongest material and the weakest picture — a small, badly lit room booked at short notice. We built the sequence around their audio with b-roll over most of it, which turned out to suit the content anyway.

Outcomes

The individual cuts are now sent during the sales process rather than published and forgotten, which is where testimonial footage usually goes to die. The full film sits on the customers page.
